Welcome!
Welcome! My name is Winston C. Wabbit. I was born on February 14th, 2020 on a farm in Pennsylvania. I'm an English Lop, which is a special breed of bunny because I have loooooong ears and am quite big. I'm not a giant though, so I'm not sure why everyone who meets me has to exclaim about how big I am. My Mommy tells me that a long long time ago people in England created us to be a "fancy" breed of bunny, so we were always bred to be housepets, which might explain why I'm so sweet and kind of lazy.
I met my Mommy of May 2nd (I was her birthday present to herself!). She fell in love with my breed of bunny for our ears, and started looking for places that had English Lops, saying that if it was meant to be, there would be an available litter in her area. Lucky for me, Mom considered three hours away "in her area"! She picked me over two of my brothers because when she pet me I settled right down. It was love at first sight! She named me Winston after Winston Churchill because she's a history teacher and thought it was a good name for an English Lop (she had that name picked out before we even met!). I must say it rather suites me!
Now I'm a suburban bunny who lives in a condo. It's a pretty sweet life! Lots of toys and treats and all the hay I can eat! There are a lot of cool things about me, but for now, here are my top five likes and dislikes:
Likes:
1) TREATS! I really like fruit like apples, strawberries, and pineapple. My Mommy gets me dried fruit because she says it stays fresh longer, and dried pineapple and bananas are my favorites! I will eat carrots, but I'm not a huge fan. Fruit is much yummier!
2) Eating meals! I get pellets in the morning and at night (and I love them, but Mommy will only give me a little bit), salads three times a day (breakfast, "hoppy hours", and dinner). And hay ALL DAY LONG! Mom started me out on Timothy Hay, but it made her sneeze, so she switched me to Orchard Grass Hay. I don't mind. It's delicious!
3) Naps! I'll sleep just about anywhere, but my favorite place is under the coffee table. I have lots of choices for beds and hidey-houses, but I like to sleep where I can keep tabs on where Mom is. Otherwise I might miss her going into the kitchen and will miss out on an opportunity to beg for treats!
4) Playing games and learning tricks: Mommy has been teaching me to jump and spin and do some other tricks, and I love the guessing game my Grandma sent me. I get treats when I play and it's so much fun!
5) Chewing on my favorite cardboard: My favorite are the pieces that came out of the box that Mommy's grill came in. She's not sure what I'm going to play with when she runs out of pieces, and is always on the lookout for nice thick pieces of cardboard for me to play with.
Dislikes:
1) Being told NO. While I get to run around the downstairs of Mom's house all I want there are places I'm not allowed to go. I get mad when she blocks them off because I REALLY want to try to chew on those plastic bags in the baskets under the credenza, and the cords behind the furniture. Sometimes when Mom says no I pee on the floor in protest. I'm cute but I'm a little bit naughty sometimes.
2) Being picked up. I'll be happy to jump up on the sofa to say hi, and will sit and cuddle with you, and will jump on your lap, but I really don't like being picked up. I like having all four paws on the ground, thank you very much!
3) Car rides. Sometimes Mom takes me to Grandma and Grandpa's house, which is four hours in the car. I'll tolerate it, but I don't really like it.
4) Nail trimming. I don't like being picked up, so when Mommy or anyone cuts my nails I don't really like it. I have to have it done though, especially being an English Lop. I tend to step on my ears and if my nails are too long I'll scratch them!
5) Being left alone. I like being around my people and getting to play, so I don't like it when Mommy leaves the room without me, or even worse, puts me in my pen to go out. I know that I can't be around Mom all the time, but I'd much rather be out and playing!
That's me in a nutshell (though I'm not allowed to eat nuts...). This blog will tell you about my life and how my Mommy takes care of me. My Mom says I'm very entertaining, and when she takes me to the vet everyone loves me, so I hope you'll enjoy my story too!
